Hello! My name is Allie Soch
a. I am in my senior year at Hofstra University as a mathematics education major and dance minor. This fall, I helped teach many novice how to row and served as a mentor to the younger coxswains. Since I am student teaching this spring, I will not be an active member on my team. However, I will be traveling with the team this April spring break to Camp Bob Cooper in SC as an extra coxswain and to help coach.
I began rowing on Beebe Cove when I was 14, because it seemed pretty neat, and continued to row through my senior year of high school. When I got to Hofstra, I initially wanted to row, but after my first fall season, I became a coxswain. Coming from the Fitch Crew Club/NRC, I didn’t know much about the world of regattas and collegiate rowing – I only knew the beauty of a rowing shell on the calm waters of the cove. Crew became my passion as I became the men’s varsity coxswain, honored with the privilege of rowing against the best at the Dad Vail Regatta and the Head of the Charles Regatta. I am currently the president of Hofstra Crew, which has taught me the behind-the-scenes work that goes into building a rowing program. I am using my experience to coach this summer and look forward to doing more in the future. Despite the heavy schedule of college rowing, I love to putt around in the single whenever I get the chance!
