Olympic Rowing Schedule

The Games of the XXX Olympiad: July 27 – August 12, 2012 program features 302 medal events! The official Olympic Medals are pictured here. Click this link to view the London Olympic Rowing Schedule. Starting July 28 through Aug 4 a total of 550 athletes will compete in Rowing events at the Olympic Games: 353 men and 197 women. Rowing is the second largest venue in the Modern Olympics, with Track & Field as the largest.  NBC has some helpful pages on their website including: Rowing BasicsCompetition Format, Equipment, Glossary of Terms, History of Olympic Rowing, and Venue.

True to American form, they also have a page of Medal Standings!?! I now realize that GDR with 33 gold medals is the only country to exceed America’s 31 gold medals in the All-Time Rowing Medal Standings! just a note – we are first in silver and bronze standings!

Kinda fun are videos where the athletes speak of their upcoming race:

Mary Whipple visualizes her perfect race. Mary is an Olympic gold and silver medalist coxswain! I don’t know about you – but I got goose bumps!!! Then … a headache when she spoke of the relentless middle 1000meters, that lead to the last 750meters that are just … Painful! Oh yeah!

Maybe an easier video to watch is Caroline Lind visualizing her perfect race. Caroline is an Olympic gold medalist rower who speaks about finding a rhythm, then feeling that rhythm in your legs… the she slips into the “Pain Cave”! Wow! I understand!

Snoop around the site and …. Enjoy!
