As of November 2012, we have finished the Shell House structure! We have completed the structurally sound support columns, a simple roofing, closed one end and created an oar locker on the other end of the Shell House! Congratulations to all who have worked these past 13 months of this task!
New England’s changing weather takes tremendous toll on equipment. Our longer 4 (40′ long) and 8 (60′ long) person shells will now be stored under shelter! Over the past decade, we have stored our shells on our trailer, aging our shells exponentially. For this reason we began working Saturdays the last week of October, 2011.
WHAT IS LEFT TO COMPLETE? We have yet to install doors closing the oarlocker, and install shell racks to hold the shells. Initially our shell racks will be made out of wood. Once installed, NRC will be able to store our precious, newer equipment under shelter for the first time in 12 years!!
As featured in a Mystic River Press ‘Currents’ Feb 18, 2012, Noank Rowing Club has been building a Shell House thru the
winter months. If you would like to ask questions, or volunteer for two – four hour work gatherings, please contact George.
In
2011 we relocated the kayak and canoe racks “down the hill” closer to the water in three day construction! Thank you one and all for your efforts!
